Hate Crimes Bill On C-SPAN2

If you have access to tv at the moment, turn on C-SPAN2 to watch our senators debate the Matthew Shepard Act. At the moment, Orrin Hatch (R-UT) is bloviating against the bill's inclusion as an amendment to a defense appropriations bill. "What's this amendmend doing attached to this bill when the president has already said he'll veto it?" Hatch mentions that hate crimes only comprise .01% of all reported crimes, then in the next breath he complains about a "massive increase" in cases that would become "federalized" under the bill. Uh, which is it?

I'll report here immediately if and when the vote comes.

UPDATE: Wow. Ted Kennedy is at the podium now and he is really losing his shit. Shouting. A LOT. I've never seen him so passionate. FANTASTIC. I've got to get video of this.

UPDATE II: The vote is proceeding now. Larry Craig just voted "NO".
