Victory In New Jersey! Marriage Vote In Full Senate Slated For Thursday

Equality activists scored a preliminary victory in New Jersey tonight!

The New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee has narrowly voted to pass a marriage equality bill to the full state Senate. The final tally was 7-6. Whew! That voted is scheduled for Thursday. It is not yet known when, or if, the state Assembly will vote on the issue.

The debate was long and typically rancorous and included testimony from the public, LGBT activists, and rightwing groups like NOM. Visit the New Civil Rights Movement for a breakdown of the evening. Blue Jersey has a great liveblog of the hearings.

I'll post highlights of the testimonies as they become available.
