NEW YORK CITY: Christine Quinn Takes Wide Lead In 2013 Mayoral Poll

In a just-published poll conducted by NY1, openly lesbian NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn leads the next-closest presumed Democratic 2013 mayoral candidate by 20 points.
The NY1-Marist poll released Monday found that 32 percent of city Democrats say they'd support Quinn in the 2013 primary. Former city comptroller and 2009 Democratic candidate Bill Thompson follows with 12 percent, and Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, Comptroller John Liu and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer are close behind. Publisher Tom Allon is named by 1 percent. Of the Democrats surveyed, 29 percent are undecided.
It should be noted that the NY1 poll included only presumed Democratic candidates. Should Quinn be elected, she would arguably become the most powerful openly gay politician in the world.

UPDATE: A separate poll published today by the New York Daily News shows Quinn handily beating NYPD Chief Ray Kelly, who has not yet committed to running but would presumably do so as a Republican and with Bloomberg's endorsement. The city's Democrats would likely fiercely oppose Kelly due to the NYPD's atrociously racist stop-and-frisk policy.
