Muslims for Progressive Values, a national organization, has endorsed the Freedom to Marry and Religious Freedom Amendment in Ohio that would end marriage discrimination while protecting the freedom of religious institutions to choose to perform and recognize same-gender marriages or not.  Ani Zonneveld, Muslims for Progressive Values President and co-founder, said her organization strongly supports LGBT rights.

“We are pleased to stand strong with our LGBT sisters and brothers in Ohio as they strike the perfect balance with their Freedom to Marry and Religious Freedom Amendment,” Zonneveld said. “This is a civil and basic humans rights issue. A loving couple should have the freedom to marry for family security. This amendment also protects the freedom of a religious institution to recognize or not recognize the couple’s marriage.”

The group formed in 2007.
