SOUTH CAROLINA: GOP State AG Vows To Continue Defending Marriage Ban

Via the Associated Press:
South Carolina will continue to defend itself against a lawsuit over its ban on gay marriage despite a decision by a federal appeals court with jurisdiction over the state that a similar gay marriage ban in Virginia is unconstitutional. Spokesman Mark Powell says South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson sees no need to change course because the U.S. Supreme Court will likely make the final decision about gay marriage. He says South Carolina's gay marriage ban remains intact. The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Virginia's gay marriage ban Monday. South Carolina is in the circuit. A legally married gay couple living in South Carolina sued in September over the state's ban. That federal case has been on hold while Virginia's ban was being heard.
